Stress causes interspecific facilitation within a compost community

چکیده
Ecological theory predicts interactions between species to become more positive under abiotic stress, while competition should prevail in benign environments. However, experimental tests of this stress gradient hypothesis natural microbial communities are lacking. We test by measuring 10 different members a bacterial community inhabiting potting compost the presence or absence toxic copper stress. found that caused significant net changes interaction signs, shifting balance towards interactions. This pattern was at least part driven copper-sensitive isolates – produced relatively small amounts metal-detoxifying siderophores benefitting from other produce extracellular detoxifying agents. As well as providing support for hypothesis, our results highlight importance community-wide public goods shaping composition.

Influence of Temperature on Intra- and Interspecific Resource Utilization within a Community of Lepidopteran Maize Stemborers
Competition or facilitation characterises intra- and interspecific interactions within communities of species that utilize the same resources. Temperature is an important factor influencing those interactions and eventual outcomes. The noctuid stemborers, Busseola fusca and Sesamia calamistis and the crambid Chilo partellus attack maize in sub-Saharan Africa. They often occur as a community of ...
متن کاملA two-locus interaction causes interspecific hybrid weakness in rice.
Reproductive barriers perform a vital role during speciation. Hybrid weakness, the poorer development of hybrids compared with their parents, hinders gene exchange between different species at the postzygotic stage. Here we show that two incompatible dominant loci (Hwi1 and Hwi2) involving three genes are likely to determine the high temperature-dependent expression of hybrid weakness in inters...
متن کاملInterspecific information transfer influences animal community structure.
Acquiring information from the cues and signals of other species of the same trophic level is widespread among animals, and can help individuals exploit resources and avoid predators. But can such interspecific information transfer also influence the spatial structure of species within communities? Whereas some species use heterospecific information without changing their position, we review re...
متن کاملEnterprise service facilitation within agent environments
A prerequisite of participating in an enterprise system is the ability to cope with the rigorous demands experienced within the system. In order to cope with these demands, a number of infrastructure support services are available to assist developers in their creation. A key obstacle to the widespread deployment of agent technology is the relative immaturity of agent technology with regard to ...
